Estelle had scored three U.K. top 40 hits in a previous deal with V2, "1980" and "Free" in 2004 and "Go Gone" the following year, but had never risen higher than No. 14. The new single is from her album "Shine," out next Monday (31), which also features collaborations with John Legend, Cee-Lo and Kardinal Offishal.
"American Boy" ended Duffy's five-week run at the top of the singles chart with "Mercy," which fell to No. 2 as Leona Lewis dipped 2-3 with "Better in Time"/"Fooprints in the Sand" (Syco Music/Sony BMG).
