Johnson's 'Static' Prevails Again On Album Chart

Comments

Without another blockbuster new release in sight, Jack Johnson's "Sleep Through the Static" remains No. 1 on The Billboard 200 for a third week. Despite a 42% slip in sales, the Brushfire effort stays above the 100,000 mark, moving 105,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Alicia Keys' "As I Am" (J) climbs back up 3-2 with 53,000 (-51%), while Amy Winehouse's Universal Republic set "Back to Black" flip-flops with it, slipping 2-3 with 52,000 (-55%).

The 13th edition of the "Kidz Bop" series starts at No. 4 with 49,000, becoming the seventh consecutive title in the primary Razor & Tie line to debut in the top 10. Overall, this is the 18th "Kidz Bop" title to chart on The Billboard 200, a collection that includes Christmas and Halloween sets as well.

The soundtrack to "Step Up 2: The Streets" (Atlantic) surges 10-5 despite a 6% sales loss to 43,000; meanwhile, another soundtrack, Rhino's "Juno," remains at No. 6 for a third week with 38,000 (-28%). With a 9% increase in sales, Sara Bareilles' Epic album "Little Voice" zooms 21-7 with 37,000, a new peak for the title.

Capitol Nashville's Chris Cagle earns his first top 10 effort on the big chart, as "My Life's Been a Country Song" starts at No. 9 with 37,000. The album also bows at the summit of the Top Country Albums chart, his second No. 1 there.

Mary J. Blige's Matriarch/Geffen album "Growing Pains" stays at No. 9 for a second week, moving 35,000 units (-28%), and Taylor Swift's Big Machine self-titled album falls 7-10 with 33,000 (-36%).

Only two other sets debut inside the top 50 this week. Jim Jones' Koch mixtape "Harlem's American Gangster" starts at No. 19 with 25,000; it's a predecessor to the rapper's next studio album, set for release this summer. Singer/songwriter Secondhand Serenade begins at No. 44 with "A Twist in My Story" (Glassnote), moving 16,000.

Sales this week are down 18.5% from last week at 7.97 million units and down 13.1% from the same week last year.
