Clinic Goes 'Mellow, Weird' For New Album

Comments

British art rockers Clinic will return April 8 with their fifth album, "Do It!." The Domino set was recorded in the group's Liverpool studio and shifts to a more melodic approach than was found on 2006's "Visitations."

Clinic frontman Ade Blackburn describes the album as a "contrast between mellow and weirdness. We heavily chopped up the song structures so they're not standard verse/chorus," Blackburn tells Billboard.com. "It makes the record hard to pin down and unpredictable."

"Do It!" was written and recorded "rather quickly," and teaming up with Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Kings Of Leon) for mixing duties "brought out a pop side" of the record. "The end result is quite a surreal mixture," Blackburn says. This stylistic melting pot most noticeably shows up on "Corpus Christi," a song Blackburn describes as a "jug band take on Can."

Clinic will tour the U.S. in May, and promises to expand into show into two sets. The first will be "Do It!" in its entirety, followed by a second set of older tunes. "It's our Bruce Springsteen phase," Blackburn says.

Here is the track list for "Do It!":

"Memories"
"Tomorrow"
"The Witch (Made to Measure)"
"Free Not Free"
"Shopping Bag"
"Corpus Christi"
"Emotions"
"High Coin"
"Mary & Eddie"
"Winged Wheel"
"Coda"
