Ferrell Goes Back To School For Stand-Up Tour

Comments

In the weeks leading up to the debut of his new comedy film "SEMI-PRO," Will Ferrell will perform stand-up at seven U.S. college campuses, beginning Feb. 4 at Kansas State University's Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan.

Along with Ferrell, the college comedy trek, sponsored by FunnyOrDie.com, will feature comedians Zach Galifianakis, Demetri Martin and Nick Swardson. Ferrell will incorporate themes of the movie into his stand-up act, according to a spokesperson at Los Angeles-based Creative Artists Agency, which represents Ferrell in all areas.

As a promotional effort for the tour, comedians who submit videos of their act to FunnyOrDie.com will have a chance to be featured on arena video screens during the tour. Winners of the contest will also receive video placement on an exclusive section of the "SEMI-PRO" movie Web site.

Set in 1976, the new comedy features Ferrell playing Jackie Moon, a one-hit-wonder musician who uses his success to buy a basketball team. "SEMI-PRO," which also features actors Woody Harrelson and OutKast's Andre Benjamin, is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 29.

In related news, actor John C. Reilly, star of the upcoming comedy "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," has already begun a brief country-country club trek, where he performs in character. The seven-city promo tour started Dec. 3 at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, and wraps Dec. 19 at the Knitting Factory in New York.

Reilly, who plays mythical rock star Dewey Cox, will perform with backup band the Hard Walkers. Each concert will begin with a preview screening of the film, which opens Dec. 21.

Here are Will Ferrell's North American tour dates:

Feb. 5: East Lansing, Mich. (Jack Breslin Student Events Center - Michigan State University)
