Dion Plots Post-Vegas Tour Schedule

Comments

With Celine Dion's long-term residency at Las Vegas' Colosseum at Caesars Palace coming to an end Dec. 15, the Canadian singer has unveiled a 45-date North American arena tour in support of her first English-language album in three years, "Taking Chances." The set is due Nov. 13 via Columbia.

The North American leg of Dion's Taking Chances World Tour is scheduled to begin Aug. 12 at Boston's TD Banknorth Garden. From there, the jaunt will visit major markets in North America before ending Jan. 30, 2009, at the BankAtlantic Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Tickets for the AEG Live/Concerts West-produced North American leg go on sale Nov. 16. Ticket prices have not yet been released.

Prior to visiting North America, Dion is scheduled to perform in Arfica, Asia, Australia and Europe. An itinerary of international concert dates can be found on her Web site.

During her tenure at the 4,100-seat Colosseum at Caesars Palace, which started in March 2003, Dion performed more than 700 concerts. When factoring in ticket sales, sponsorship money and merchandising, the residency will have grossed more than $500 million, according to John Meglen, president/co-CEO of Concerts West, a division of AEG Live, which oversees programming at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The $95 million facility opened in 2003 with the purpose of housing Dion's show.

As Dion wraps her stint, actress/singer Bette Midler will be ushered in as the Colosseum's new resident artist. Midler's first show is Feb. 20, with an initial contract calling for 100 shows over the first two years.
