Cat Power Cements New Album Track List

Comments

Cat Power has settled on the track list for "Jukebox," her second covers album. The 12-track set is due Jan. 22 via Matador and includes a new original, "Song for Bobby," plus a fresh rendition of Cat Power's own "Metal Heart."

The album is rounded out by James Brown's "Lost Someone," Bob Dylan's "I Believe in You," Credence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" and Hank Williams' "Ramblin' (Wo)man."

"Jukebox" follows 2000's "The Covers Album," which featured Chan Marshall's interpretations of songs by the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Moby Grape and the Velvet Underground. It's the follow-up to last year's "The Greatest," which won the 2007 Shortlist prize for creative achievement.

Cat Power just hit the road with the Dirty Delta Blues Band for a tour that runs through Nov. 4 at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas.

Marshall can also be heard covering Dylan's "Stuck Inside of Mobile With Memphis Blues Again" on the soundtrack to "I'm Not There," due Oct. 30 via Columbia.

Here is the track list for "Jukebox":

"Theme From 'New York, New York'" (Kander/Ebb; originally sung by Frank Sinatra)
"Metal Heart" (Cat Power)
"Ramblin' (Wo)man" (Hank Williams)
"Song To Bobby" (Cat Power)
"Aretha, Sing One for Me" (J Harris/Eugene William; originally sung by George Jackson)
"Lost Someone" (James Brown)
"I Believe in You" (Bob Dylan)
"Fortunate Son" (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
"Silver Stallion" (Lee Clayton)
"Dark End of the Street" (Chips Moman/Dan Penn; originally sung by James Carr)
"Don't Explain" (Billie Holiday)
"Woman Left Lonely" (Spooner Oldham/Dan Penn, popularized by Janis Joplin)
