Bruce Springsteen racked up his seventh U.K. No. 1 album yesterday (Oct. 7) with "Magic" (Columbia), while the Sugababes started a second week atop the British singles chart with "About You Now" (Universal Island).
The Springsteen album extends his span of U.K. chart-toppers to more than 22 years, since "Born in the U.S.A." hit No. 1 in February 1985 (eight months after first charting). He also reached the summit with "Tunnel of Love" (1987), "Human Touch" (1992), "Greatest Hits" (1995), "The Rising" (2002) and "Devils & Dust" (2005).
"Magic" arrived at the top ahead of Katie Melua's third album, "Pictures" (Dramatico), as last week's No. 1, Foo Fighters' "Echoes Silence Patience & Grace" (RCA), fell to No. 3. There was a No. 5 entry for "Shotters Nation" (Parlophone) by Babyshambles, fronted by Pete Doherty. Also new in the top 10 were Annie Lennox's "Songs of Mass Destruction" (RCA) at No. 7 and Bob Dylan's new three-CD compilation "Dylan" (Columbia). That's Dylan's 31st top 10 album in the territory.
British pop-soul perennial Gabrielle came in at No. 11 with her new set, "Always" (UMRL) and Mark Ronson's platinum-certified "Version" (Columbia) rose 29-18 in its 25th chart week, buoyed by the 12-7 climb for its latest single, "Valerie," featuring Amy Winehouse.
Sugababes stayed ahead of "Let Me Think About It" (Data) by Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grand, the Dutch-born DJ-producer's remix of a track by the Danish singer, which rose 5-2. Plain White T's' long-running "Hey There Delilah" (Angel) rebounded 6-5 in its 12th chart week, while Feist's "1, 2, 3, 4" (Polydor) rose 16-8, mirroring its new top 10 status on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to its use in Apple's iPod Nano commercial.
Also moving up the new U.K. singles chart were Jennifer Lopez's "Do It Well" (RCA), 34-11, and Stereophonics' "It Means Nothing" (V2), 41-12. Elvis Presley scored another top 20 reissue with "King Creole" (RCA) at No. 15.

But his track "1973" lost the lead on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles to "Ayo Technology" (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) by 50 Cent featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.
