Billboard Bits: Rage Against The Machine, David Gray, Cake Sale

Comments

Rage Against The Machine will play two headlining dates in Australia in late January, which are widely believed to bookend appearances at the annual Big Day Out festival. The lineup for that event is expected to be announced next week.

Rage, which reunited in April at the Coachella festival and has played a handful of shows since, will visit Sydney on Jan. 22 and Melbourne on Jan. 30. The group has not played in Australia since the 1996 Big Day Out event.

The new songs "You're the World To Me" and "Destroyer" will be found on David Gray's "Greatest Hits," due Nov. 13 via ATO. "World" goes to U.S. radio outlets on Sept. 24. Gray is planning to tour Europe in November and play some shows in North America in December, with details to be announced.

The artist has also begun writing his next studio album, which is expected in fall 2008.

Here is the track list for "Greatest Hits":

"You're the World to Me"
"Babylon"
"Late Night Radio"
"Please Forgive Me"
"Hospital Food"
"Be Mine"
"This Years Love"
"Sail Away"
"Shine"
"Alibi"
"The One I Love"
"Flame Turns Blue"
"The Other Side"
"Destroyer"

Members from acts like Crowded House, Snow Patrol and the Cardigans, plus solo artists like Josh Ritter, have joined forces for the unique benefit album "The Cake Sale." The set was originally released in Ireland late last year and will arrive Oct. 16 here via Yep Roc.

The nine-track set features previously unreleased tracks from songwriters Glen Hansard (the Frames), Damien Rice, Bell XI's Paul Noonan and Dave Geraghty, the Thrills' Conor Deasy, Emm Gryner and Matt Lunson. Even more vocalists contributed, including Gemma Hayes, Ritter, Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody, Lisa Hannigan, the Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon and the Cardigans' Nina Persson.

Proceeds will benefit Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign.
