Billboard Bits: Coachella '08, Genesis, Bob Mould

Comments

The dates for the 2008 Coachella festival won't be announced for several weeks, but festival co-creator Paul Tollett of Goldenvoice tells Billboard.com he's "just starting right now" to seek out talent for the event in the California desert.

"It's exciting and scary all at the same time," he says. "You have to try and do well again. We had a really fun year this year. It is always a little daunting to get started. It's not so obvious which way to go, but we're looking forward to the challenge."

The festival's ability to jumpstart a single act's career was borne out with the recent success of Daft Punk's North American tour. The French techno group played its first show in nine years at the 2006 edition of Coachella and drew overwhelmingly rave reviews. "That is a lesson for a band -- if you can build yourself to where your show is so great that people are calling everyone around the world saying you got to check that out," Tollett says.

Just in time for its first
North American tour with Phil Collins since 1992, Genesis will on Sept. 11 release a double-disc hits collection, "Turn It on Again" via Rhino. The 32-song set also includes material from Peter Gabriel's stint on lead vocals with the U.K. group.

In addition, Rhino will in November release a second Genesis boxed set compiling the four studio albums the act released between 1983 and 1998 (each as CD/DVD sets) as well as a disc of B-sides and rarities.

Here is the track list for "Turn It on Again":

Disc One: "Turn It On Again," "No Son Of Mine," "I Can't Dance," "Hold On My Heart," "Jesus He Knows Me," "Tell Me Why," "Invisible Touch," "Land Of Confusion," "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight," "In Too Deep," "Throwing It All Away," "Mama," "That's All," "Illegal Alien," "Abacab," "No Reply At All," "The Carpet Crawlers 1999"

Disc Two: "Paperlate," "Keep It Dark," "Man On The Corner," "Duchess," "Misunderstanding," "Follow You Follow Me," "Many Too Many," "Your Own Special Way," "Afterglow," "Pigeons," "Inside And Out," "A Trick Of The Tail," "Counting Out Time," "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)," "Happy The Man"

Bob Mould will celebrate the Oct. 9 release of his live DVD "
Circle of Friends" with a month-long U.S. tour. At each event, Mould will play a 30-minute acoustic set, sit for a Q&A session, screen the film and then sign copies for fans. The tour begins on release day in Chicago and runs through Nov. 11 in Philadelphia.

In related news, Mould has signed with Anti-, which will release his as-yet-untitled new solo album in January. His most recent release, 2005's "Body of Song," was issued by Yep Roc.

Here are Bob Mould's tour dates:
