Raveonettes Indulge 'Lust,' Shop For U.S. Label

Comments

Danish rock act the Raveonettes has left Columbia and is shopping for a new U.S. label to release its fourth album, "Lust Lust Lust." The set is due Nov. 5 internationally.

"Now that we're out of the Sony deal, it's going to be a lot easier for us to get all of the things we want, which means vinyl releases, 7-inch singles and all of the cool stuff," frontman Sune Rose Wagner tells Billboard.com. "This time around, we get to choose who we want to work with."

As for the material found on the follow-up to 2005's "Pretty in Black," Wagner promises change is in the air. "This record is quite different from the other ones because it's a quite personal album," he says. "It's written a lot in first person, whereas some of the other albums have been more fictitious stories and stuff. This is all based on personal experiences. I think lyric-wise, it's something a lot of people can relate to. It's quite dark and gloomy."

Stylistically, Wagner points to the noisy guitar-fueled and drum loop-driven "Aly Walk With Me" and the dreamy guitar sounds of "With My Eyes Closed" as defining "Lust Lust Lust."

The Raveonettes have announced a few September dates in France, to be followed by a brief three-week North American jaunt, which begins Oct. 10 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Wagner feels in the past touring has been lacking for the act, which is why it is concentrating on more European dates this fall, with Japan and Australia also on the horizon.

"We're just going to do all of those things that we haven't done for a while because it was too complicated for the label," Wagner says. "But now we can actually do it, also because we don't need tour support anymore. We can take care of ourselves. We've made enough money."

He adds, "It's like starting fresh again, which is really good for us. I'm more excited than I have ever been because I know this time around, we can take it up to the next level."
