Kate Nash, Robyn Rule New U.K. Charts

Comments

As Londoner Kate Nash's "Foundations" single fell away from the No. 2 spot where it spent five of its six weeks on the U.K. singles chart, there was major consolation for the Fiction/Polydor singer/songwriter. Her debut album, "Made of Bricks," went straight to No. 1, while Swedish popster Robyn's "With Every Heartbeat" (Konichiwa) rose 5-1 to become the U.K.'s bestselling single.

Nash replaced Paul Potts' "One Chance" (Syco Music/Sony BMG) at the top of the album list, which featured only one other top 10 debut in the shape of Liverpool modern rock act the Coral's "Roots & Echoes" (Deltasonic) at No. 8. Ben's Brother, the recording name of London-based singer/songwriter Jamie Hartman, entered at No. 24 with the debut set "Beta Male Fairytales" (Relentless/Virgin).

On the singles chart, Robyn's new No. 1 unseated "The Way I Are" (Interscope) by Timbaland featuring DOE and Keri Hilson. That moved down to No. 2 as Kanye West's "Stronger" (Def Jam) came in at No. 3. Plain White Ts improved 10-6 with "Hey There Delilah" (Angel) and Rihanna's "Shut Up and Dance" (Def Jam) rose 14-11.

Beyonce's "Green Light" (Columbia) was also on the climb, 17-12, while there were top 20 entries for Elliot Minor's "Jessica" (Reposession) at No. 19 and former Savage Garden member Darren Hayes at No. 20 with "On the Verge of Something Wonderful" (Powdered Sugar).

On Billboard's pan-European sales charts, Mika's "Life in Cartoon Motion" (Casablanca/Universal Island) marked six months on European Top 100 Albums by securing a second week at No. 1. Rihanna's "Umbrella" featuring Jay-Z continues its lengthy reign on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles, with a tenth week at the top.
