Korn Kicking Around Possible Covers Album

Comments

Covers may be in Korn's future. The hard rockers, who release a new, untitled album July 31 via Virgin, told reporters yesterday (July 18) they've actually started work on what will likely turn into a full set of cover songs in the future.

"We've already done, like, 'Love My Way' from Psychedelic Furs," said Korn frontman Jonathan Davis. "We've done 'We Care a Lot' from Faith No More [and Nine Inch Nails'] 'Head Like a Hole.' Those are already recorded. We just gotta get in and do some more."

Davis said that he, guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer and bassist Reggie "Fieldy" Avizu "keep writing down covers" they'd like to record. Davis' current wish list includes Prince's "Erotic City," Ozzy Osbourne's "Diary of a Madman" and Debbie Deb's "Lookout Weekend" as done by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam. The group previously covered Radiohead's "Creep" for its "MTV Unplugged" album that came out in March.

Korn has no specific timetable for recording the covers album, however. The group is busy preparing for the release of the new album as well as tomorrow's launch of the Family Values Tour -- which also features Evanescence, Atreyu, Hellyeah and Trivium -- in Maryland Heights, Mo.

Munky said Korn's set will be "high energy" and that the group is "doing a lot of songs we haven't played in eight or nine years. We're kinda going deep into the album tracks. We're not just doing all the singles."

Davis told Billboard.com that Korn's stage set is "f*ckin' ridiculous...the hugest thing we've ever done -- lights, everything. The show gradually goes and at the end it totally peaks. It's definitely different for us. The fans are gonna be very pleased."

One thing Korn won't be doing, however, is recreating its acoustic "Freak on a Leash" duet with Evanescence's Amy Lee from "MTV Unplugged." "We feel like we did that. It was a special thing -- one time only," Davis said. "This time we're more into just rockin' like crazy."
