Looking ahead while enjoying the present is how the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus guitarist Elias Reidy is approaching the band's upcoming high-profile slot on the Vans Warped Tour 2007. The 20-year-old Florida native tells Billboard.com the band is already working on a follow-up to its 2006 debut "Don't You Fake It," with plans on performing new song "Pen and Paper" this summer.
"It sounds like Red Jumpsuit," Reidy says. "There's not going to be anything too off the wall. Don't expect like a freestyle or a rap in there. But really, it's just rock, man. It'll be hookier and probably catchier. I'd say written for the new record, we have at least five songs and there are tons of riffs and ideas for different songs. We also have a couple (songs) we didn't release before."
With "Don't You Fake It" certified gold and having yielded the hit single "Face Down," the quintet is enjoying the good life on the Warped Tour, which kicks off Friday (June 29) in Pomona, Calif.
"In 2006, we played about 70 percent of the Warped shows, and this is different for us because we're one of the headliners, which is incredible," Reidy says. "We never really thought that would be an opportunity for us. And we're in a bus now and have crew, so it's going to be a lot easier. Last year we had no crew and were in a van with no seats and no A/C. It's a rags-to-riches kind of thing."
Once the tour wraps, Reidy hints the band may head overseas before focusing its attention on the next album. Recording is currently scheduled to begin early near year with a tentative release date being summer 2008; however, band members aren't in a hurry.
"We're not really stressing about it," Reidy says. "We're just going to go with it and let it go. That's the way we did the last one, and that's the way we're going to do this new one, too."
