Norah, Bright Eyes, Cat Power Visit 'Hottest State'

Comments

Norah Jones, Cat Power, Bright Eyes, the Black Keys and Willie Nelson are amongst the artists that have been tapped to perform new songs written by Jesse Harris for the upcoming soundtrack to Ethan Hawke-directed film "The Hottest State." The album will be released Aug. 7 via Hickory Records, a new imprint recently put on the map through the release of "American Idol" finalist Elliott Yamin's debut album earlier this year.

Harris is co-producing the soundtrack, and plays a small role in the film. Feist, M. Ward, Emmylou Harris, Brad Mehldau, Tony Scherr and Argentinian singer Rocha also contributed their talents to interpreting his songs. Harris performs three songs and wrote its two score passages.

"From our first conversation, I was overwhelmed by the quality of Jesse's songwriting and how perfectly matched it was to my aspirations for the tone and mood of the film," says Hawke, who has known Harris since the early '90s.

Harris, who penned Jones' 2002 hit "Don't Know Why," is also preparing to release his sixth solo album, "Feel," July 10 via Velour. "The Hottest State" opens Aug. 24 in U.S. theaters.
