Buble Sidesteps Bone Thugs To Claim No. 1

Comments

Michael Buble's 143/Reprise set "Call Me Irresponsible" moves 2-1 to claim the top spot on The Billboard 200. In its second week on the chart, the album sold 145,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, a 32% drop from its debut week.

Debuting at No. 2, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's "Strength & Loyalty" (Full Surface/Interscope) sells 119,000. The set is the group's first top 10 album since "BTNHResurrection" debuted at No. 2 in 2000. Last year's "Thug Stories" only peaked at No. 25 with 31,000.

R&B singer Bobby Valentino's sophomore set "Special Occasion" bows at No. 3, the same place his self-titled debut entered in 2005. The DTP/Island Def Jam set sold 92,000, significantly fewer than the 180,000 copies that greeted "Bobby Valentino."

Last week's chart-topper, Ne-Yo's Def Jam album "Because of You," slips to No. 4 with 89,000, a 65% dive. Avril Lavigne's "The Best Damn Thing" (RCA) falls 4-5 after an 18% decrease at 71,000, while Daughtry's self-titled RCA debut climbs a notch 7-6 with 67,000 (+33%).

Barbra Streisand earns her 29th top 10 album with "Streisand: Live in Concert 2006" (Columbia), which bows at No. 7. The live set, her seventh to chart, moved 60,000. In its 78th week on the chart, Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" (Arista Nashville) ascends 10-8 with 57,000 (+29%).

Though she's started with bigger sales weeks, Bjork scores her highest debut this week with "Volta." The Elektra/Atlantic effort lands at No. 9 with 43,000. Her previous charting best was No. 14 with her last set, 2004's "Medulla." Her sales high-water mark came with 2001's "Vespertine," which bowed with 75,000.

The "NOW 24" hits compilation rounds out the top tier, slipping 9-10 with 41,000 (-12%).

Other big debuts this week include Elliott Smith's posthumous Kill Rock Stars collection "New Moon" at No. 24 with 24,000, Dipset's "DukeDaGod Presents Dipset" (Diplmatic) at No. 26 with 23,000, British act Travis' "The Boy With No Name" (Independiente/Epic) at No. 58 with 12,000 and Yolanda Adams' "The Best of Me" (Atlantic) at No. 60, also with 12,000.

Album sales are up less than 1% from last week's total at 8.43 million units and down 23% compared to the same week last year.
