Billboard Bits: Mariah Carey, Chris Brown, Mobile

Comments

Mariah Carey has recently logged time recording in the British Virgin Islands for her as-yet-untitled new Island Def Jam album, the follow-up to 2005's "The Emancipation of Mimi," released in 2005.

Bryan Michael-Cox is one of the songwriters submitting songs for the project, which will feature contributions from longtime collaborator Jermaine Dupri.

"The Emancipation of Mimi" has sold 5.8 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

Jive teen crooner Chris Brown is ruffling feathers at the label. Brown stopped by New York radio station Hot 97 on Friday and played "Wall to Wall" from his upcoming album "Exclusive" -- apparently against the label's wishes. The station now is rotating the cut in mixshow.

"Wall to Wall" was co-written by Brown and prior collaborator Sean Garrett. It is now expected to be first single from "Exclusive," which is tentatively due in September.

Canadian rock act Mobile will release its U.S. debut album, "Tomorrow Starts Today," July 24 via the Militia Group. The set was produced by Matt DeMatteo (Danko Jones, Ashley MacIsaac) and mixed by Mark "Spike" Stent" (Bjork, Oasis).

Fresh off its Juno Award for new group of the year, Mobile will hit the road in North America beginning June 21 in Buffalo, N.Y.
