Maroon 5 Makes 'Wondrous' Jump To Lead Hot 100

Comments

With the largest jump to No. 1 in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, Maroon 5 scores its first chart-topper as "Makes Me Wonder" soars 64-1. The move was fueled by digital sales of 243,500 downloads and a No. 1 debut on Hot Digital Songs. Kelly Clarkson held the previous record for the largest jump to No. 1 on the Hot 100 when she moved 52-1 with "A Moment Like This" in October 2002.

Last week's Hot 100 leader, Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend," drops to No. 2, although the parent RCA album, "The Best Damn Thing," remains No. 1 on The Billboard 200 for a second week. Timbaland's "Give It to Me" featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake is down 2-3, while T-Pain's "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')" inches up 5-4. The cut also claims the No. 1 slot on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, T-Pain's first chart-topper there.

Back on the Hot 100, Ne-Yo's "Because of You" rockets 39-5; the Def Jam album of the same name was released earlier this week. Carrie Underwood's "I'll Stand by You" is the chart's top debut at No. 6. The track is the first iTunes exclusive to ever open in the top 10; it was drawn from last week's "American Idol Gives Back" special. Fergie's "Glamorous" featuring Ludacris drops 4-7, while Clarkson's "Never Again" debuts high at No. 8.

Rounding out the top 10, Akon's "Don't Matter" slides 3-9 and Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape," also featuring Akon, is down 6-10. The chart's greatest digital gainer is Huey's "Pop, Lock & Drop It," which rises 15-12, while the White Stripes score their highest rank on the Hot 100 to date as "Icky Thump" debuts at No. 28.

Clarkson has a second song new to the chart this week, as "Up to the Mountain" featuring Jeff Beck opens at No. 56. Snow Patrol's "Signal Fire" is new at No. 65, followed by Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up" featuring the African Children's Choir at No. 78. That cut is also drawn from last week's "American Idol" charity special.

On Hot Country Songs, Rascal Flatts' "Stand" moves 2-1, knocking Carrie Underwood's "Wasted" down to No. 3. Chayanne's "Si Nos Quedara Poco Tiempo" jumps 5-1 to overtake Hot Latin Songs, as Jennifer Lopez's "Que Hiciste" falls to No. 9 after a week on top.

Linkin Park dominates the Modern and Mainstream Rock charts with "What I've Done," beginning a fourth week atop the former and displacing Breaking Benjamin's "Breath" after seven weeks at No. 1 on the latter.
