New York rock act Radio 4 is penning the score for the Antonino D'Ambrosio documentary "Let Fury Have the Hour," which examines the political impact of artists like the Clash and Manu Chao over the past four decades.

Actor Tim Robbins is serving as the executive producer of the film, which is based on D'Ambrosio's book of the same name. A soundtrack will feature new Radio 4 songs plus tracks from Chuck D, Moby, Ted Leo, Mos Def, Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and other artists to be announced, while Shephard Fairey will contribute original art.

"Generally, when films are made about how music and politics connect, they go back to Woody Guthrie, Dylan, Vietnam and Kent State," Radio 4 frontman Anthony Roman tells Billboard.com. "The idea is to start with the Clash and move forward; it's for our generation. It has a worldview, with artists like Manu Chao and Rachid Taha, who've kept that spirit going. It's the idea that music could be a universal political language to affect people and change."

Radio 4's own contributions to the score will be "some of the dubbier and more Afrobeat things we do," according to Roman. "Percussion-based, African, reggae; We're trying to bring that all together for this film, because it's not just about Western music."

The documentary "needs to be out for the election year," he adds. "It's pivotal that it comes out at that point, so [D'Ambrosio is] trying to get it wrapped up by the end of the year." In addition, "it looks there will be a tour around the film, with some of the people involved," Roman says.

While creating material earmarked for "Let Fury Have the Hour," Radio 4 is also writing songs it expects to appear on its next Astralwerks studio album, which will likely be recorded in the fall. The band will take a break from the studio in late May and early June for shows in New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Providence, R.I.
