Mandy Moore, Benji Madden Join Ben Lee Album

Comments

Australian singer/songwriter Ben Lee is at work on his next album, "Ripe," due in September via New West. Mandy Moore guests on the track "Birds and Bees," which Lee likens on his blog to "Summer Lovin'" from the musical "Grease." "Mandy was very sweet and did her best Olivia Newton-John for me," he writes.

Other artists contributing to the follow-up to 2005's "Awake Is the New Asleep" include Good Charlotte's Benji Madden (who co-wrote "Love"), Nickel Creek's Sara Watkins (who played fiddle and sang on a number of cuts), Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench and members of Rooney. John Alagia is serving as the producer.

"We are in the process of working through the top 25 of the 80 songs I've written, in order to choose the 18 that we will record," Lee wrote last month. "From there we will need to pick the 11 or 12 that will make the album. I've never had this big a pool of material to choose from."

The only live performance on Lee's schedule for now is a June 15 acoustic concert in Sydney in conjunction with a speech by the Dalai Lama.
