Malkmus Eyeing Early '08 For Next Album

Comments

Stephen Malkmus is "67.4685%" completed recording his fourth post-Pavement album with his band the Jicks, according to a post on his Web site.

"Basic tracks for album committed to tape," he said of the as-yet-untitled set, which is being tracked at Snowghost Studios in Montana. "Looks to be done sometime in late June. Apparently, the songs are so big that Matador is pushing for an early 2008 release."

A Matador spokesperson says the set may potentially arrive in October, but that January or February 2008 are also possibilities. Snowghost owner Brett Allen tells Billboard.com that some alternate takes were filmed in HD, along with band interviews, which should be posted on the studio's Web site in the near future.

The follow-up to 2005's "Face the Truth" will be the first Jicks album to feature former Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss. However, Weiss will be touring this summer with Bright Eyes, necessitating Malkmus to play solo on July 15 in Chicago at the Pitchfork Music Festival.

Meanwhile, the Jicks will perform as a full band in mid-August at the Green Man Festival in Wales.
