Former Eurythmics instrumentalist Dave Stewart has composed a track for Earth Day on behalf of environmentalist non-profit Green Peace, set for release April 17 via iTunes. A host of female talents such as former bandmate Annie Lennox, Sarah McLachlan, Bonnie Raitt, Imogen Heap and Nadirah X join Stewart on "Go Green."
The single is the first recording available through the new arts initiative Greenpeace Works. The company shares office space with Stewart's own enterprise, Weapons of Mass Entertainment, which supports artistic efforts for Greenpeace, Amnesty International and AIDS awareness and prevention organizations.
Stewart has recently logged time producing Ringo Starr's upcoming effort, which will be the follow-up to 2005's "Choose Love" (Koch).
As part of a new deal with Jheryl Busby's Umbrella Recordings and songwriter/producer Mike City's Unsung Entertainment first reported by Billboard last year, former Bad Boy artist Carl Thomas will release his third album, "So Much Better," this summer.
The project boasts production from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Big Jim Wright, Bryan Michael Cox, Pitch Black and Mike City, who was behind the hits "I Wish" and "You Ain't Right" from Thomas' 2000 debut, "Emotional."
The first single is "2 Pieces," while Brandy guests on "Something About You." Dave Hollister and Lalah Hathaway make appearances as well.
British rock staple Nick Lowe's first album in almost six years, "At My Age," will arrive June 26 via Yep Roc. The 12-track set includes guest turns by the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde and Bill Kirchen. Nine of the songs are new originals, while covers of Charlie Feathers, the Uniques and Farron Young round out the package.
Lowe is best known as the primary songwriter of the group Brinsley Schwarz and later as a principal member of Rockpile. He has also produced classic albums from Elvis Costello and the Damned.
