Green Apple will be the largest carbon-neutral event of its kind, according to organizers. Each venue will utilize environmentally friendly supplies, such as biodegradable cleaning materials and recycled napkins and paper towels.
In New York, kid-friendly singer/songwriter Laurie Berkner will headline a free show on Central Park's Great Hill, while Hicks will play the Beacon Theatre. Other acts set to play that day at various venues include Tom Paxton and Richard Shindell, Fat Mama, the Radiators, Edwin MccAin, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers and Junior Brown.
The Chicago edition will boast a free show at Lincoln Park Zoo from Umphrey's McGee, the Disco Biscuits and Paul Green's School Of Rock. The Decemberists, Andrew Bird, the Kaiser Chiefs, the Walkmen, Del McCoury, RJD2 and Mad Professor also have Green Apple-affiliated shows scheduled in town that day.
In San Francisco, Weir & Ratdog will anchor a free show in Golden Gate Park alongside the Greyboy Allstars and Martin Sexton. At night, Marley, Tea Leaf Green, Trans Am and Yonder Mountain String Band will perform.
