Billboard Bits: Ferraby Lionheart, Tony Bennett, Kokua Festival

Comments

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Ferraby Lionheart has signed with Nettwerk Productions, Billboard.com has learned. His self-titled EP will be re-released Feb. 27 in digital form; his debut studio album is due from Nettwerk early this summer.

Lionheart has been a music blog favorite since his maiden New York performances last fall at the CMJ Music Marathon. This spring, he will be on the road for a combination of dates in late February opening for the Autumn Defense and then throughout March with the Walkmen and the Broken West. He will also perform at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.

Netflix has acquired the worldwide rights to produce and distribute the Tony Bennett documentary "The Music Never Ends." The film, a release date for which has yet to be announced, will be directed by Bruce Ricker and executive produced by Clint Eastwood.

"The Music Never Ends" will blend rare archival footage with unreleased clips from Bennett's recent performance at the Monterrey Jazz Festival and a lengthy interview with the artist conducted by Eastwood.

As previously reported, Bennett won two Grammys on Sunday night: best traditional pop vocal album for "Duets: An American Classic" and best pop collaboration with vocals for "For Once in My Life" featuring Stevie Wonder.

Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and Boom Gaspar will join Jack Johnson at his fourth annual Kokua Festival, set for April 21-22 at the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu. Proceeds from the shows will benefit the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, which works to preserve Hawaii's natural environment. Some funds have been earmarked to expand recycling programs in schools, sponsor field trips and curriculum development.

Matt Costa, Ernie Cruz Jr. and the Girlas will also perform at the shows, which will be broadcast live on MySpace.com. In addition, an hour-long special on the event will air April 1 on the National Geographic Channel.
