Billboard Bits: Soles4Souls, Sounds Eclectic 6, Scott Walker

Comments

Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Mary Wilson and Booker T. and the MGs will perform Feb. 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for the same "sole" purpose: shoes. The benefit concert, hosted by actor Jim Belushi, will raise money for Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization that provides footwear to victims of disaster.

The late James Brown was originally slated to headline the event and a donation of 100,000 pairs of shoes will be made in his honor. However, the event is not open to the public: only the 36,000 attendees of the World Shoe Association's annual show and conference are invited.

The Shins, Lily Allen, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Cold War Kids and Bitter: Sweet will perform at KCRW's A Sounds Eclectic Evening 6, to be held April 14 at Los Angeles' Gibson Amphitheatre. More artists will be announced; tickets go on sale Feb. 27. Proceeds from this year's gig will be earmarked for efforts to digitize the station's library of CDs and vinyl.

Enigmatic songwriter Scott Walker's life will be brought to light in the film "Scott Walker: 30 Century Man," due April 27 in theaters worldwide via Verve Pictures. The documentary includes interviews with friends and admirers such as Brian Eno, Jarvis Cocker, members of Radiohead, Sting, Damon Albarn, Richard Hawley and David Bowie.

"30 Century Man" explores Walker's early pop success with the Walker Brothers as well as his increasingly experimental solo career. It also documents the making of "The Drift," his first solo record in a decade, which was released last year via 4AD.
