Country Descending On Desert For Stagecoach Fest

Comments

The lineup is set for the inaugural Stagecoach festival, which, as previously reported, will be held May 5-6 at Empire Polo Field in Indio, Calif., the site of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival the prior weekend. The bill is headed by George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Sugarland, Lucinda Williams and Willie Nelson.

The new event will sport four performance stages: the main stage, an alt-country stage, a bluegrass stage and a "storytelling" area, the latter of which will feature appearances by "Prairie Home Companion" creator Garrison Keillor and Texas poet laureate Red Steagall. Tickets go on sale Jan. 20.

Fans will also be treated to country memorabilia, vintage cowboy gear, folk art and western heritage installations. Saddle making lessons, lasso and trail boss seminars and blacksmith demonstrations will enrich the experience.

Stagecoach was booked by Coachella producer Paul Tollett, Louis Messina of TMG/AEG Live and Steve Moore of AEG Live Nashville. "Kenny and George committed immediately and they love the idea," Messina told Billboard.com in November. "This is the first year, and I think this is something that's going to be around for a long time and grow into something really special. This is Paul's dream, and I'm just happy to lend a hand."
