Upstart rockers Hinder will be giving new life to an Eddie Money hit -- and helping the veteran singer with a hoped-for comeback in 2007.
The Oklahoma City quintet is planning to record a version of Money's "Take Me Home Tonight," a No. 4 pop hit in 1986 that Hinder has been performing in its live shows. Money's management says the group has also invited him to appear on its version of the song.
"We all love it," guitarist Joe "Blower" Garvey says of "Take Me Home Tonight," whose original version features Ronnie Spector. "I think we kinda put our own little touch on it."
There's no word yet on where or when Hinder's version of the song will appear, but Money is planning to perform it with the group on Dec. 18 at the Roxy in Los Angeles.
Money, meanwhile, has set a March 13 release date for "Wanna Go Back," a collection of '60s covers that features Ray Charles' "You Don't Know Me" as the first single and also includes renditions of Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels' "Jenny Take a Ride," the Young Rascals' "Good Lovin'," Wilson Pickett's "Land of 1000 Dances," the Soul Survivors' "Expressway (To Your Heart)," the Foundation's "Build Me Up Buttercup," Inex Foxx's "Mockingbird" and the Motown staple "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," on which he duets with his daughter, Jesse.
"Wanna Go Back" -- Money's first set of fresh studio recordings since "Ready Eddie" in 1999 -- was produced by Randy Forrester, who plays keyboards in Money's band the Grapes of Wrath. It will be released by Big Deal Productions/Warrior Records and distributed by the Universal Music Group.
