Incubus Scaling Back For 'Light Grenades' Tour

Comments

Incubus' return to active duty will include a return to theaters in early 2007. Guitarist Mike Einzinger tells Billboard.com that the California quintet -- whose sixth album, "Light Grenades," comes out Nov. 28 via Epic -- is excited about returning to smaller venues with a North American tour that will begin in January, most likely in Vancouver.

"We haven't played theaters in a very, very long time," Einzinger says, "and we just decided it was a really good time in our career to kind of just step back. We were playing in these massive arenas for, like, the last five years, and it was fun, but it just seems like it needs to be small again, and special for us."

But Einzinger adds that the initial "Light Grenades" road trip "doesn't mean we won't play those big places anymore. I hope we still do. But I've always loved playing in theaters."

Incubus' theater tour should be a "short run" covering major cities. The group then plans to hit Europe, South America, Australia and Japan, as well as some new territories such as Dubai and Israel along with more North American dates later in the year. "I know in six months I'll be eating my words," Einzinger says with a laugh, "but I really am excited about all that traveling."

The guitarist adds that fans can expect the tour to yield more of the authorized "bootleg" live recordings Incubus puts out to raise money for its Make Yourself Foundation, which has raised more than $500,000 for charities.

"Anna Molly," the first single from "Light Grenades," is the top debut this week at No. 19 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart.
