Pop is the dominant theme amid the list of nominees for the seventh annual Latin Grammys, with Shakira leading the fray with six nods.

Shakira's sweep comes on the strength of her Spanish language album "Fijacion Oral, Vol. 1," which up for album of the year. The single "La Tortura," a duet with Alejandro Sanz, is nominated for song and record of the year as well. The track, which broke the record for weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart, was penned by Luis Fernando Ochoa, Sanz and Shakira.

Poetic singer/songwriter Ricardo Arjona, Argentine rocker Gustavo Cerati and Mexican pop/alternative chanteusse Julieta Venegas with four nods each. Cerati's album, "Ahi Vamos," will compete in the album of the year category against Shakira and Venegas' "Sal y Limon."

Among the surprise nominees are Argentine singer/songwriter Leon Giecco's "Por Favor, Perdon y Gracias," which is up for three awards, including album of the year, and newcomer Fonseca with his single "Te Mando Flores," which is up for record of the year.

In the best new artist category, there is one commercial success, Calle 13, and one moderate radio presence, Lena, competing alongside artists that have yet to make an impact here at all: Ceu, Ines Gaviria and total newcomer Pamela, who records on her own label out of Peru.

The Latin Grammys will air live Nov. 2 from New York on the Univision Network. Nominees and winners are voted upon by members of the Latin Recording Academy.
