Apples In Stereo Draft Elephant 6 Stars For New Disc

Comments

Veteran indie rock act the Apples In Stereo are the first signing to actor Elijah Wood's label, Simian Records. The group's new album, "New Magnetic Wonder," will arrive Feb. 7 via the imprint, which is a joint venture with Yep Roc and will be distributed by Redeye.

The set is split into two sides and features 24 total tracks, several of which are what group leader Robert Schneider describes as "link tracks." It was produced by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Trey Anastasio) and features appearances by a host of Elephant 6 collective members, most notably, reclusive Neutral Milk Hotel leader Jeff Magnum and Olivia Tremor Control principals Bill Doss, John Fernandes and Will Hart.

The disc itself includes enhanced content centered around Schneider's "invention of a new musical scale," dubbed the "Non-Pythagorean Scale." Two tracks on "New Magnetic Wonder" were borne out of this discovery, while two others were written by ex-drummer Hilarie Sidney, who is now focusing on her own band, the High Water Marks.

The Apples In Stereo have spent most of their career recording for spinART; their final album for the label was 2002's "Velocity of Sound."
