Chili Peppers, Shakira Lead MTV VMA Nominations

Comments

The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Shakira lead the pack for the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards with seven nominations each for their respective videos "Dani California" and "Hip's Don't Lie." The artists are both up for video of the year alongside Christina Aguilera ("Ain't No Other Man"), Madonna ("Hung Up") and Panic! At The Disco ("I Write Sins Not Tragedies").

"Hung Up" is also up for best female video, best dance video and best pop video. The Aguilera clip earned additional nods for best pop video and best choreography.

The best male video category will find Nick Lachey's "What's Left of Me" vying against James Blunt's "You're Beautiful," Kanye West's "Gold Digger," T.I.'s "What You Know" and Busta Rhymes' "Touch It."

The first batch of confirmed performers includes Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Panic! At The Disco, the Killers, T.I. and Ludacris. The Raconteurs will provide the soundtrack for the event, which will be held Aug. 31 at New York's Radio City Music Hall.

Fans can vote for a number of the categories via MTV.com, including the viewer's choice award, which will remain open until the show is already on the air.
