The behind-the-scenes footage was shot, directed and produced by filmmaker Walker Lamond, who has worked for years with acclaimed director D.A. Pennebaker.
"The only footage of the Dolls out there is from 30 years ago. It is fun to add to the canon, but not dwell on the old stuff. It really concentrates on the current Dolls, so people looking for [frontman] David Johansen in stilettos [are] not going to get it" Lamond tells Billboard.com.
"The best thing about filming with David Jo [is that] you can stick a camera on him and he's always very compelling," Lamond continues. "He's one of the great wits of rock'n'roll. The chemistry that he and [guitarist] Syl [Sylvain] have together was fun to watch. They had a blast, and I wanted it to show that they were having fun, too."
Prior to the release of the new album, which will premiere tonight (June 13) on Sirius Satellite Radio, the Dolls are scheduled to play two shows at the end of this month in Paris and Belgium.
