Billboard Bits: 'Midterms Matter,' Van Morrison, Nina Nastasia

Comments

Dave Matthews Band, O.A.R. and former Phish members Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon are among the artists set to perform at the Midterms Matter tour. The multi-city outing, which encourages Americans to vote in midterm elections, kicks off with the Summercamp event May 26-28 in Chillicothe, Ill., featuring headliners Umphrey's McGee, moe. and the Disco Biscuits.

The tour, organized by the nonprofit HeadCount, encompasses over 30 major concerts and events, including the June Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, Tenn. Dave Matthews Band will headline a two-day gala on New York City's Randall's Island in August.

Other performers include the Allman Brothers Band, Ratdog, fronted by former Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, and Phil Lesh and Friends, featuring the Dead's former bassist. Volunteers will help register voters throughout the tour. For a complete list of tour dates and venues, visit HeadCount.

Van Morrison will on June 27 re-release his country covers album "Pay the Devil" (Lost Highway) as a special edition disc. Along with the original tracks, a five track DVD of Morrison's March 7 performance at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium and concert photos will be included. The original "Pay the Devil" was released that same day.

The live video segments and photos were shot by photographer Danny Clinch as part of CMT's "One Night in Nashville" series. "Pay the Devil" debuted at No. 26 on The Billboard 200 and peaked at No. 7 on Top Country Albums earlier this year.

Singer/songwriter Nina Nastasia will release her as-yet-untitled fourth studio album Sept. 11 in the United Kingdom and Sept. 12 in the United States. The disc will be her first under the Brighton-based Fat Cat Records, which will helm distribution in both markets.

According to Nastasia, the set will feature diverse "new instrumentations."

"I dug up a lot of old material and re-wrote a batch," she tells Billboard.com. "But we'll definitely have some new ones on there." The new set is the follow-up to 2003's "Run to Ruin" (Touch & Go). Nastasia is also planning a fall tour in support of the album.
