DMX Eyeing August For Sony Urban Debut

Comments

Rapper DMX has set an Aug. 1 release for his first project in a three-album deal with Sony Urban, "Year of the Dog, Again." The Scott Storch-produced single "Lord Give Me a Sign" is at radio and iTunes now. The new album was originally recorded for Def Jam but only a handful of the original songs will appear on the final release.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, brought back his Ruff Ryder cohort Swizz Beatz to produce tracks for "Year of the Dog, Again," as well as Dame Grease, who worked on all of his past hits.

"Year of the Dog, Again" will be the follow-up to 2003's "Grand Champ," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 1.17 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The rapper was released late last year from New York's Rikers Island prison after serving more than two months for a 2004 incident at New York's JFK Airport.
