DVD Chronicles 2004 PJ Harvey Tour

Comments

Several performances from PJ Harvey's 2004 tour are culled on the upcoming DVD, the acclaimed U.K. band's first such release. Due May 23 in the United States via Island, "PJ Harvey On Tour -- Please Leave Quietly" boasts performances of 16 songs paired with interview and behind-the-scenes footage.

"I find being on tour to be disjointed, dis-orientating, and de-stabilizing," bandleader Polly Jean Harvey says. Nothing is fixed. Everything changes daily and this is what I wanted people to feel and see. To sense a little of what it is like for me."

Directed by longtime collaborator Maria Mochnacz, the DVD a 28-minute interview with Harvey about writing, recording and performing. Among the featured songs are "Down by the Water," "It's You" and "Meet Ze Monsta" captured at stops in the United States and across Europe while the band was out behind that year's "Uh Huh Her."

Mochnacz and Harvey have a lengthy relationship that covers every PJ Harvey music video, some of which remain unreleased. She has also directed clips for Robert Miles, M People, Echobelly, Sleeper and Sven Vath, among others.

"We have reached a level of dialogue and comfort with each other where ideas can flow easily," Harvey says of their relationship.

At deadline, there's no release date for a new PJ Harvey album. In recent months, Harvey has been spotted occasionally playing bass behind Morris Tepper.

Here is the "Please Leave Quietly" track list:

"Meet Ze Monsta"
"Dress"
"Uh Huh Her"
"Taut"
"Down by the Water"
