Buffett Has A 'Hoot' With Jackson, Maroon 5

Comments

In addition to serving as co-producer and appearing in a small role as a marine science teacher, Jimmy Buffett headlines the sun-splashed soundtrack to the upcoming film "Hoot." The album will be released April 18 on Buffett's own Mailboat Records label.

Buffett has recorded two new songs: "Good Guys Win" and "Barefootin'," a duet with his "It's 5'O Clock Somewhere" partner Alan Jackson. Buffett also contributes covers of Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" and Bruce Cockburn's "Wondering Where the Lions Are," as well as a reggae version of his own "Floridays."

The album is rounded out by Maroon 5's cover of Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" with Withers on background vocals and tracks by reggae pioneers Toots and the Maytals, Philadelphia soul singer G. Love, and Jacksonville, Fla.-based swamp rockers Mofro. The movie's score features slide guitarist Sonny Landreth and ukulele artist Jake Shimabukuro.

Based on the Carl Hiassen novel, "Hoot" was directed by Wil Shriner and stars Luke Wilson. It opens April 21 in U.S. theaters on April 21.

As previously reported, Buffett will start a five-date spring tour on April 18 in Phoenix, and embark on a scaled-down version of his annual summer trek June 2 in Atlanta. The artist has also been finishing tracks for a new album at his Shrimp Boat Studios in Key West, Fla.
