C-Murder Could Be Out Of Jail This Week

Comments

A $500,000 bond has been set for the rap artist formerly known as C-Murder while he waits for a second trial on a second-degree murder charge stemming from a club shooting four years ago.

Under an order issued yesterday (March 15) by Louisiana State District Judge Martha Sassone, Corey Miller, 35, could be released into home incarceration within a few days. Members of Miller's family said the would cover his property bond.

Miller is charged with the fatal shooting of Steve Thomas, 16, on Jan. 12, 2002, during a fight at a now-closed nightclub in Harvey, La. A jury convicted Miller, who faced a mandatory life prison sentence without parole, but Sassone tossed the conviction after ruling that prosecutors hid the criminal backgrounds of some state witnesses from the defense.

However, posting bond in Jefferson Parish would not necessarily mean a release for Miller. He is charged in Baton Rouge with two counts of attempted second-degree murder and faces trial there on May 30. Defense attorneys are expected to ask a judge to set bond on those charges later this week.

Authorities in Baton Rouge allege that Miller tried to shoot a nightclub owner and a security guard on Aug. 14, 2001, after he was told he would have to be searched before entering the club.

Miller has changed his stage name to C-Miller.
