U2 Postpones Last 10 Dates Of Vertigo Tour

Comments

U2 has postponed the final 10 dates of its Vertigo '06 tour in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Hawaii. A joint statement by promoters The Next Adventure (TNA) and Michael Coppel Presents (MCP) blamed it on the illness of an immediate family member. Additional details were not given.

"Any fan of U2 will realize that this decision has not been taken lightly," said TNA president Arthur Fogel. "We will announce further details as soon as we have them."

The affected dates were set for Auckland's Ericcson Stadium (March 17-18), Brisbane's Queensland Sports & Athletics Centre (March 21), Melbourne's Telstra Dome (March 24-25), Adelaide's AAMI Stadium (March 28), Sydney's Telstra Stadium (March 31, April 1), Yokohama's Nissan Stadium (April 4) and Honolulu's Aloha Stadium (April 8).

All the shows except for Adelaide were sold out. It was to have been the band's first visit to Australia and New Zealand in eight years. Kanye West, who was to open for U2 in those countries, will go ahead with his own six shows.

A family illness was also cited when U2 postponed the start of the world tour in January 2005. When Dublin's Sunday World newspaper identified the relative and the illness in a front-page story, guitarist the Edge obtained a temporary injunction, claiming an unwarranted invasion of privacy.
