Aguilera Looks To The Past On Upcoming Album

Comments

Christina Aguilera's long-awaited new album doesn't have a name or a release date, but the artist has revealed that her inspiration for the project was far from modern. She unveiled a more classic look last month at the Grammy Awards, decked out like a vintage starlet while performing with Herbie Hancock.

"Some of the songs are kept authentic, sticking to a really raw, old-soul sound, where others combine elements of old blues, jazz and soul with a hard modern-day edge," she said last week in London while promoting a European partnership between telecoms giant Orange and hand set maker Sony Ericsson.

Through the technology collaboration, Aguilera has been tapped to feature in a nine-month marketing campaign across a string of European markets.

Very few specifics have come to light about the album, expected this summer via RCA. The set will be the follow-up to 2002's "Stripped," which has sold more than 3.91 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In-demand songwriter/producer Linda Perry, who worked with Aguilera on "Stripped," recently told Billboard.com she contributed to the upcoming effort. "I'm not really sure if any of the cuts will make the record, but I certainly hope so," she said. "They're going to see a whole other side of Christina."
