Love Channeling Dylan On New Album

Comments

Courtney Love is on her second set of demos for the follow-up to 2004's maligned "America's Sweetheart," her solo debut for Virgin. "I'm working on [them] with Linda Perry, she's going to produce the album," Love tells Billboard. Love has written much of the material herself or with such co-writers as Billy Corgan.

If her current album rotation is any indication, the new set could be very interesting. "I'm listening exclusively to [Bob Dylan's] 'Blood on the Tracks,' so that's where I'm kind of going," she says. "I haven't used a drummer yet."

In addition to Perry, Dylan collaborator Daniel Lanois has heard some cuts, although Love says she does not know if they will work together on this project. "But I got some really good feedback from him."

Still up in the air is a label home for Love. Her manager Peter Asher says he "doesn't know" if it will come out on Virgin. "We're thinking about all that," he says. "All label options are open to us."

Perry, who also produced "America's Sweetheart," says she has a bit of a different direction in mind for Love's new material. "It's really time that girl makes her 'f*** you' record," she says. "But, you know, she gets distracted."

"America's Sweetheart" topped out at No. 53 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 100,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
