Billboard Bits: Destiny's Child, Gomez, Oasis

Comments

On the heels of its farewell tour and album, Destiny's Child will perform live for the final time when it sings the National Anthem before the 2006 National Basketball Association All-Star Game. The contest will take place Feb. 19 in Houston and will be broadcast live by TNT.

Destiny's Child's members are already busy with solo projects. As previously reported, Beyonce Knowles will be seen this month in the remake of "The Pink Panther" and is hoping to begin work on a new album this summer. Kelly Rowland has penciled in a June 13 release for her sophomore solo set, while Michelle Williams' next project is expected sometime this summer.

Gomez will release its newest effort, "How We Operate," in May via ATO. The band's principal songwriters (Ian Ball, Tom Gray, Ben Ottewell) will embark on an acoustic tour in March, testing new material at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, and at shows in Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and the United Kingdom.

"How We Operate" will be the British quintet's first studio album for ATO, on the heels of last year's live effort "Out West." Gomez's last album for Virgin, 2004's "Split the Difference," reached No. 11 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart.

Oasis will wrap its live appearances in support of its 2005 Epic album "Don't Believe the Truth" with a March 31 show in Mexico City. Two prior Oasis world tours have ended in the city, including a 1998 show where guitarist Noel Gallagher's amplifier caught on fire during the opening song, "Supersonic."

The new Mexico City gig will follow six North American shows in Toronto, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Nashville and Houston. In February, the group will also play nine dates in Europe and four in Southeast Asia.
