Mann Stripping Down On Acoustic Tour

Comments

Still supporting her 2005 album "The Forgotten Arm," singer/songwriter Aimee Mann will begin a three-week acoustic tour Jan. 27 in Boulder, Colo. "For the last year, I've been touring with this whole band, and I just thought if I went out again, it would be time to try something a little bit new," she tells Billboard.com.

While rehearsals with touring musicians bassist Paul Bryan and keyboardist Jamie Edwards haven't begun, Mann expects to add a few nuggets to her set list. "There's a song called 'Frankenstein' [from 1995's 'I'm With Stupid'] that people seem to request a lot so we thought we'd give that a whirl," Mann says.

The 45-year-old artist confirms she is considering recording the acoustic show for a possible concert album. After years of keeping live material from fans, Mann released the DVD/CD "Live at St. Ann's Warehouse" last year.

As for additional live dates promoting "The Forgotten Arm," her third release on her own SuperEgo label, no decisions have been made. "I don't know if we'd do an acoustic thing or bring the band back or what we'd do -- or if it's just time to start writing songs," Mann says.

A notoriously slow songwriter, Mann says normally by this time in the touring cycle she already has a few songs written for the next studio release. Currently that's not the case, which means any new album definitely won't see the light of day until at least 2007.

"I'm not a fast writer and I usually have a couple of things stockpiled by this time so, yeah, (I'm) wondering a little bit how long it's going to take me to come up with material for another record," Mann says. "But also, you just can't worry about that."
