Metallica Doc Director Turns Camera On Lee

Comments

One of the directors of the rock documentary "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster" is poised to make some more noise. Bruce Sinofsky will turn his camera on Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, who recently starred in his own NBC reality show, "Tommy Lee Goes to College." The still-untitled film, in preproduction, is slated to begin shooting in the spring.

"In the rock world, there are few figures as colorful as Tommy Lee, and not just because of his tattoos," Sinofsky says. "This project seeks a candid glimpse behind the celebrity and tabloid personality into who Tommy really is, watching him interact with family, friends and business associates."

Sinofsky and directing/producing partner Joe Berlinger won an Independent Spirit Award last year for best documentary for "Metallica," which tracked the hard rock band's near-demise as it dealt with personnel problems. The pair also shared Emmy and Peabody awards for the 1996 documentary "Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills," which aired as part of HBO's "America Undercover" series.

"I'm honored that Bruce is turning his cameras loose on me," Lee says. As previously reported, Motley Crue will resume its successful Red, White and Crue tour Feb. 10 in Columbus, Ga.
