Weezer Preps Live DVD As Hiatus Begins

Comments

Having completed its promotional obligations in support of its 2005 Geffen album, "Make Believe," Weezer has begun a hiatus of undetermined length. As previously reported, frontman Rivers Cuomo will return to Harvard in February, with plans to graduate in June with a degree in English. In early 2005, he resumed his studies at the university after an eight-year break.

To tide fans over, Geffen will release an as-yet-untitled live Weezer DVD sometime this year. Footage was captured last month during a trek through Japan. According to Weezer's official Web site, the project will center on a seven-camera concert shoot and will also feature behind-the-scenes footage.

Despite mixed signals from the Weezer camp in recent months about the band's future, the site now proclaims, "It's not going to be entirely quiet around the Weezer 'hood, not by a long shot. Everyone is planning on writing music, and indeed, a good deal of songs have been already created while the band was still on tour this fall." A spokesperson adds that the band may even tour during Cuomo's collegiate downtime.

In addition, drummer Pat Wilson is building a home studio and will collaborate with guitarist Brian Bell to record a cover of the Velvet Underground's "Heroin." The tune will be featured in the upcoming film "Factory Girl," which stars Guy Pearce as Andy Warhol and Sienna Miller as his muse, Edie Sedgwick. "Factory Girl" is due to hit U.S. theaters in September.
