Guitarist, Family Murdered On New Year's Day

Comments

Bryan Harvey, former guitarist with the early 1990s duo House Of Freaks, was found murdered along with his family over the weekend in Richmond, Va., according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Harvey, his wife Kathryn and their two daughters, aged 9 and 4, were discovered Sunday (Jan. 1) when firefighters responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at their home.

The Harveys were found bound with their throats cut in the basement of their home, located in what the paper describes as a "leafy, middle-class community of young families and retirees" located within 10 minutes of Richmond's downtown district.

Johnny Hott, Harvey's House Of Freaks bandmate, reported the fire upon arriving at the home for a planned New Year's Day party.

According to the Times Dispatch, the family was alive on Sunday morning. Harvey returned home at approximately 2 a.m. after playing with his current band, NrG Krysys, at a local hotel. Neighbors told the paper that his older daughter spent the night at a friend's house and returned home Sunday morning, where she was greeted by her mother.

Officials told the paper that the case is being handled as a homicide and arson investigation.

House Of Freaks released an EP and two albums via Rhino, and one for Warner Bros. imprint Giant. Harvey and Hott also recorded with Gutterball with Dream Syndicate's Steve Wynn and the Silos' Bob Rupe.
