Bun B Collaborates With Beyonce, Snoop

Comments

With his latest Rap-a-Lot 4 Life/Asylum album, "Trill," having scored a No. 6 debut on The Billboard 200 this fall, Houston rapper Bun B will remain visible in the coming months with a host of high-profile guest appearances.

The artist tells Billboard.com he will guest on a remix of Beyonce's "Check on It" featuring Slim Thug on the soundtrack to the upcoming film "The Pink Panther," which opens Feb. 10 in U.S. theaters. As previously reported, Bun is also featured on the track "If U Want" from Donell Jones' "Journey of a Gemini," due Jan. 31 via LaFace/Zomba.

But of perhaps most interest to fans will be Bun's pairing with Snoop Dogg on a remix of the title track from the highly anticipated Jazze Pha/Cee-Lo collaborative album, "The Happy Hour." Originally expected in November, the set is now due Feb. 14 via Sho'Nuff Recordings/Capitol.

"The best way I can describe it is lounge music, if you can imagine lounge rap music," Bun B says of the set. "It sounds awkward, but it makes all the sense in the world when you hear it."

Asked if the famously unusual Cee-Lo toned down his personality for the project, Bun B replies with a chuckle, "No, not at all. He's in full blossom. They transcended your average R&B/rap collaboration. It's a totally new brand of music these two guys came together to make."

As the Houston hip-hop scene continues to revel in its mainstream breakthrough this year, Bun says he wouldn't be averse to a possible tour featuring such fellow hometown colleagues as Slim Thug, Paul Wall and Mike Jones.

"Everybody has talked about but it's hard to get everybody on the same page," he notes. "Before, the main factor was album release times. Now, with everybody out with albums, I'm pretty sure you'll see something of that nature put together. Not to mention that we're all jealous of that Georgia Power tour that T.I. and Young Jeezy have got going!"

As previously reported, Bun B is patiently awaiting the hopeful release from jail of his UGK partner Pimp C, who is serving time near Houston on an assault charge.
