Daddy Yankee To Launch Reebok Collection

Comments

Reggaeton sensation Daddy Yankee has inked a multi-year deal with Reebok to launch DY, a signature sport collection that will include athletic footwear, apparel and accessories. Yankee is the latest rapper to join Reebok?s roster, which includes Jay-Z, 50 Cent and Nelly.

"Reebok is the perfect brand for me to partner with because they believe in what I believe in -- being real and not being afraid to do something that sets you apart from the crowd," says Yankee. "I'm truly honored to be able to share my uniqueness and creativity with the rest of the world."

The DY line will be available in spring 2006 through athletic specialty retailers.

Yankee will also be part of Reebok's global "I Am What I Am" ad campaign, which honors music icons, athletes and entertainers. Jay-Z, 50 Cent and NBA players Allen Iverson and Yao Ming, have been featured in the campaign.

Fueled by the hit lead single "Gasolina," Daddy Yankee's 2004 Universal album, "Barrio Fino," has sold nearly 900,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The disc, which bowed at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Latin Album chart and peaked at No. 26 on The Billboard 200, was named Reggaeton Album of the Year at the 2005 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Daddy Yankee will be among the artists performing tonight (Dec. 6) at the 2005 Billboard Music Awards. He'll team up with Ashlee Simpson during the event, which will air live on Fox from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
