50 Cent, Coldplay Among DEMX Awards Nominees

Comments

50 Cent, Coldplay, Cream and Paul McCartney are among the nominees for the second annual DEMX Awards honoring vision, innovation, entrepreneurship and brand development in 21 digital entertainment categories. Winners in the fields of games, music, film, television and video will be revealed during a Dec. 1 gala dinner at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

Rapper 50 Cent is nominated in the best use of technology by an artist category with Vivendi Universal Games for their collaboration on the video game "Bulletproof." Coldplay and Cingular are also up for the honor, as is crunk kingpin Lil' Jon and Prince and his NPG Music Club.

Vying for the title of music DVD of the year is "Chick Corea Akoustic Band" (Geneon Entertainment), "Cream Royal Albert Hall" (Reprise/Rhino), "Live 8" (EMI Music) and "Paul McCartney Live in Red Square" (Blink Digital).

AOL and Microsoft lead the field with five nominations each. Yahoo!, Napster and HBO each received three nominations.

Among AOL's nods is a visionary of the year mention for Jon Miller, chairman/CEO of America Online Inc and a best radio service nomination for the AOL Radio Network. Microsoft's recognitions include a best interactive television programming bid for MSN Music's "Rock Star: INXS" and nominations for its Xbox Live Arcade service in the innovator and game innovation of the year categories.

A complete list of finalists can be found at Digitalentertainmentawards.com.

The DEMX Awards will serve as the finale of the Digital Entertainment & Media Expo (DEMXPO), developed by Adweek magazines, Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, with research from the Nielsen companies.
