Sinatra Plants A New 'Kiss'

Comments

Nancy Sinatra has set a Sept. 28 release date for her new, self-titled album for Morrissey's Attack imprint via Sanctuary. As previously reported, the first single is Sinatra's version of Morrissey's "Let Me Kiss You," featuring the latter artist on backing vocals. It will arrive Sept. 14 in North America.

Beyond previously announced collaborations with U2's Bono and the Edge, Pulp's Jarvis Cocker, Pete Yorn and Jon Spencer, the album features the cut "Momma's Boy," written by Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore. Sinatra describes that song as "kind of spooky and dark."

E Street Band guitarist "Little" Steven Van Zandt penned "Baby Please Don't Go," which Sinatra says is "a rocker, and I think it's one of his best ever." Calexico chimed in with the track "Burnin' Down the Spark."

On the heels of a June appearance at the Morrissey-curated Meltdown Festival in London, Sinatra will return to the stage Aug. 14 at Van Zandt's International Underground Garage Festival at New York's Randall's Island, and Sept. 4 at Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival.

"It was absolutely great," Attractions drummer Pete Thomas, who appears on the album, tells Billboard of the Meltdown appearance. "All she ever did in England was a TV show 38 years ago, but all sorts of celebrities came out to see her and gave her a five-minute standing ovation when she walked out. She was in tears."
