Last weekend the Los Angeles-based group played the McDowell Mountain Festival in Scottsdale, Ariz., which kicked off a schedule that currently stretches through to a Sept. 1-2 stand at the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul. Among the band's appearances are stops at Manchester, Tenn.'s third Bonnaroo festival and Lake Placid, N.Y.'s Songs at the Lake event.
A show planned for Friday (April 30) in Chicago has reportedly been rescheduled for June 30 because singer/guitarist David Hidalgo is ill.
On the day of the new album's release, the band will sign copies of "The Ride" during an appearance at L.A.'s Amoeba Records (6400 Sunset Blvd.). The next day, Los Lobos perform the single "La Venganza De Los Pelados" with Mexican rock act Café Tacuba on NBC's "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" and celebrate the album's release with a party and performance at the city's Avalon Ballroom.
Los Lobos is also slated to appear May 6 on "Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn" and June 15 on "The Late Show With David Letterman," both on CBS, and Aug. 3 on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien." A New York CD signing event is also set for June 14 at Tower Records' Greenwich Village location (692 Broadway).
Other guest artists on "The Ride" include Bobby Womack, Richard Thompson, Mavis Staples, Dave Alvin (the Blasters), Mitchell Froom, the Band's Garth Hudson, Quetzal's Martha Gonzales and Willie G. Streaming samples of each track on the album are available on Los Lobos' Hollywood Web site.
