John Mayer scored a best male pop vocal performance Grammy in 2002 for his single "Your Body Is a Wonderland," but the 29-year-old songwriter's career has proven more virile than that single popular hit. Armed with wide-ranging guitar skills and a smooth voice, Mayer has been able to churn out hit after hit on pop and adult radio, including the most recent "Waiting on the World To Change" from 2006's "Continuum."
Mayer, who is based in Atlanta, was signed to Columbia imprint Aware after his performance at the South by Southwest in 2000. His major label debut, "Room for Squares," came a year later, peaking at No. 8 on The Billboard 200. He has since released a pair of live efforts, "Any Given Thursday" and "Try! John Mayer Trio Live in Concert," and two studio albums, "Continuum" and 2003's "Heavier Things." He's also contributed guitar work and vocals to albums from artists like the Dixie Chicks, B.B. King, Herbie Hancock and Eric Clapton/J.J. Cale.
"This one is a reflection of where I am and where I think I'll be also,"
Mayer told Billboard of "Continuum" last July. "This record is mood and soul music and blues music; these things don't go anywhere for me. So hopefully, there's a little bit of that mentality, a little bit of that essence that will staple the songs into whatever time I find myself in."
